Amid Racial Reckoning, ABC Brings Back Turning Point For Monthlong Program

ABC News is exploring the racial reckoning sweeping the nation and reviving The Turning Point Series for an entire month. The series will be aired over Nightline.

Turning Point, the ‘90s ABC News program, will explore how centuries of injustice led to this year's movement. Marie Nelson, senior vice president of integrated content strategy for ABC News, said in a statement, “Over the past few weeks and months, there has been a fever pitch echoing across the nation for this country to combat and undo its hundreds of years of systemic racism and inequities. With these special ‘Turning Point’ reports our viewers will see our commitment to addressing this pivotal moment.”

ABC News intends to feature “Turning Point” segments on “Good Morning America,” “World News Tonight,” “The View,” “20/20” and “This Week,” as well as on its digital, streaming and audio outlets.

Curtis '50 Cent' Jackson And T.I. For TV Series, 'Twenty Four Seven', At CBS All Access

 Twenty Four Seven, a drama starring T.I. Inspired by Notorious C.O.P.: The Inside Story of the Tupac, Biggie, and Jam Master Jay Investigations from NYPD’s First “Hip-Hop Cop,” will be produced by Curtis ‘50 Cent’ Jackson.

The series is currently in the works and the final pieces for the project will be produced by CBS TV Studios and Lionsgate TV. Dallas Jackson writes the series based on the book written by Derrick Parker and Matt Diehl and Curtis Jackson executive produces the series through his G Unit Film & Television.

T.I. will play the role of Derrick Parker who was involved deeply in rap history, including, the first shooting of Tupac Shakur.

Nick Cannon's Podcast "Cannon's Class" Dropped By ViacomCBS, Citing "Bigotry"

On July 14, 2020, Deadline.com reported that ViacomCBS dropped Nick Cannon’s podcast, “Cannon’s Class” after he made what they considered “hateful speech and “anti-semitic conspiracy theories” during an episode. The podcast also aired on YouTube, that airs on YouTube. The “Cannon’s Class” continues to air on YouTube and has 391K subscribers.

The podcast is about “all things Cannon,” and recently has been focusing on racism, white supremacy, and the police. Nick’s video, “I Can’t Breathe, Again!” went viral after COVID-19 broke out and the racial protests started after the murder of George Floyd.

According to the Deadline.com article, Nick made comments on racism, sharing that people who have “the lack of pigment” are “a little less” than those who do, and have “a lack of compassion.” He continued, “They’re acting out of fear. They’re acting out of low self esteem. They’re acting out of a deficiency. So therefore the only way they can act is evil. They have to rob, steal, rape and [unintelligible] in order to survive.” He then shared, that Black people are the “true Hebrews.”

ViaccomCBS issued the following statement to Deadline:

ViacomCBS condemns bigotry of any kind and we categorically denounce all forms of anti-Semitism. We have spoken with Nick Cannon about an episode of his podcast ‘Cannon’s Class’ on YouTube, which promoted hateful speech and spread anti-Semitic conspiracy theories. While we support ongoing education and dialogue in the fight against bigotry, we are deeply troubled that Nick has failed to acknowledge or apologize for perpetuating anti-Semitism [Nick has since issued an apology], and we are terminating our relationship with him. We are committed to doing better in our response to incidents of anti-Semitism, racism, and bigotry. ViacomCBS will have further announcements on our efforts to combat hate of all kinds.

Cannon shared with Facebook and Twitter: “Anyone who knows me knows that I have no hate in my heart nor malice intentions,” “I do not condone hate speech nor the spread of hateful rhetoric. We are living in a time when it is more important than ever to promote unity and understanding.”

He also specifically apologized to the Jewish community: "I must apologize to my Jewish Brothers and Sisters for putting them in such a painful position, which was never my intention, but I know this whole situation has hurt many people and together we will make it right," he wrote. "I have dedicated my daily efforts to continuing conversations to bring the Jewish Community and the African American community closer together, embracing our differences and sharing our commonalities."

Nick Cannon’s podcast, “Cannon’s Class” continues to air on YouTube, and he remains the host of "The Masked Singer" following his apology for recent anti-Semitic remarks.

'Tosh.0' Ends With Season 12 After 11 Years; Daniel Tosh Will Shop Series

After 11 years, Tosh.0 has come to an end as the ViacomCBS network reversed its course against adult animation. The show will wrap up with its 12th and now final season- a quick turnaround since the network picked the show up for a four-season renewal in January. “I look forward to doing an animated reboot of my show on MTV in 25 years,” joked Tosh.

Season 12 of “Tosh.0” is set to debut on Sept. 15 at 10 p.m. ET and will consist of 10 episodes. The longest-running live-action show will reach 300 episodes after a long 11 years.

Daniel Tosh, host of Tosh.0, plans to shop the series to other networks.

“After briefly returning to the studio last week, the newscaster anchored Monday’s broadcast of Today from home, explaining to her co-host Hoda Kotb that she wanted to be close to her family amid the coronavirus pandemic. Guthrie shares 3-year-old son Charley and 5-year-old daughter Vale with husband Michael Feldman.

“‘I’m home. You know, the reason, Hoda — my family is upstate, and so I’m sticking close to the family and coming to the city less and less,” said Guthrie, 48. “So I’m trying to work from home. And also, frankly, that’s what these officials are telling us to do, so that’s exactly what I’m going to do.’”

Savannah sets the scene at 30 Rock right now in the People article:

“Several other Today show stars are also working remotely, and in a new interview with Page Six, Kotb opened up about the strange experience of coming into the deserted office.

“‘The Today show is normally teeming with people. Even when I arrive, there are people outside 30 Rock waiting for the show to start — they’ve made trips to come see us. But [now] there’s literally not a soul outside,” she said. “I go into the studio and you can hear your footsteps echoing [because] there’s no one there.’”

Hoda Kotb shares what her in-studio experience is like:

“With no stylists or makeup artists, Kotb has been doing her own hair and makeup.

’“I do my hair with, like, a curling iron from the ’80s and really don’t lay eyes on anyone until Savannah pops up on the monitor,” she said.’”

Awe, Dang It!...MSNBC's Your Business With JJ Ramberg Closes Up Shop

After 12 years on the air every Sunday morning, after what was supposed to be a 6 month run, Your Business with JJ Ramberg has ceased production in December 2018. You can look at their first show announcement over at Ad Week when they were just babies in 2006!

According to a comment down in the show’s Facebook page, the sponsor did not renew for 2019. Which is a stinker because one would think there would be other sponsors out there. According to Wikipedia, American Express OPEN was the sponsor.

JJ Ramberg showcased many small businesses - small and large - including a few Tin Shingle Members - on her show over the years. During that time, she got married and had three kids, who she brought to work at times (see them in the show’s last highlight reel). She also has a podcast, Been There. Built That, that reveals details on journeys to success, what it took to build companies, and turn a No into Yes. The last episode, however, was released in December 2018.

What Will JJ Ramberg Do Next?

She’s unstoppable, so is sure to pop up again somewhere, in probably a big way. The show had a loyal following of small business enthusiasts. JJ knew that small business is personal, and talked about that often in her segments. Your Business was the longest running at MSNBC after Chris Matthew’s Hardball.

Hoda Kotb Replaces Matt Lauer as Co-Host on Today Show, Keeps Co-Host Seat with Kathie Lee

Well a good morning and happy first day of the New Year 2018 to you as well, Today Show!

With Hoda and Savannah sitting in the middle of the Today Show's Twitter cover photo, and their first live taping wrapped up, many rejoiced at NBC's selection of Hoda as Matt Lauer's replacement during the 7am-9am hour after he was fired from the show for sexual misconduct. Hoda will remain as co-host with Kathie Lee in their 4th hour together which they have done since 2008.

The tone is already one of friendship and warmth. With People Magazine's cover story of Savannah and Hoda opening up about their feelings about the change, Today.com ran a story with excerpts from the article, including this memory from Savannah: “I remember reading something later that said I had grabbed Hoda’s hand, and of course that’s not something you plan. That’s just something you do because you have a real friend, and you need to hold her hand.”

Siri Daly's son observed: "Mommy there are more girls than boys!" With two women anchoring, how will the show's tone change? Already, maybe we have an answer. Hoda stated: "This is bigger than one person, it’s bigger than Matt, it’s bigger than me, it’s bigger than Savannah, it’s bigger than all of us."

I must confess: I don't watch the Today Show, aside from any research I do for Tin Shingle. TV distracts me, so I don't have it on in the background of anything. More notable, however, is my lack of interest in Matt Lauer. He never appealed to me, so the dynamic between him and anyone didn't interest me. Success is always in the people, so now, while ratings are soaring for the Today Show for the moment according to Variety, my interest is genuinely piqued.

I'm not alone, as who can forget that New York Magazine article for their 2013 story "Matt Lauer and the Decline of the Today Show" after Ann Curry left the show. From the article "The image of Matt Lauer trying to comfort her—and of Curry turning away from his attempted kiss—has become a kind of monument to the real Matt Lauer, forensic evidence of his guilt."

Perhaps this has been a move that has been needed for years, but NBC believed he was the key to the show. When change happens, it can be for the best, and can force your hand to do something that needed to be done long ago. We'll see how the ratings shake out, but here's how Twitter felt about it today:
