Serial Entrepreneur & Fitness Rock Star Nadia Murdock's Motivation Mix

Nadia Murdock-Villar

Multi-facted writer and entrepreneur Nadia Murdock has always been passionate about two things in life: fitness and fashion.  After experiencing dramatic fluctuations in weight loss and gain, she made fitness a way of life. With her pulse on what is cutting edge and hot in the fitness industry, Nadia began writing for the New York Fitness Examiner in 2008, the same year she launched her own PR company, Manchester Public Relations, embracing lifestyle and fashion professionals/brands.  Just recently she launched a series of fitness books you can find online HERE that are sure to keep you in share and motivated!

What better person to be the DJ of today's Monday Motivation Mix than Nadia?  She clearly has a powerful mix pushing her!

Hollaback Girl > Gwen Stefani
I will never get tired of this song! I think Gwen Stefani embodies what I preach, “You Can Have It All”.

Watch Them Roll > Sean Paul
Sometimes to release stress during the workday I dance like no one is looking. ☺

Stronger > Britney Spears
I have come a long way since this song was released; this was on constant repeat when I was trying to drop the extra pounds I gained in college. Not only is it a motivational tune for working out but also when I am trying to get a project or writing assignment completed.

I Made It (Cash Money) > Kevin Rudolf
I would like to think I am “making it”; obtaining goals in life should be a continuous adventure. I picture myself singing this song to everyone that doubted me in the past.

Fly > Nicki Minaj & Rihanna
The first few words of this song is so motivational and that’s why I love this song.
I came to win, to fight, to conquer to thrive
I came to win, to survive, to prosper to rise
To Fly

La Despedida > Daddy Yankee
When choreographing steps for my Zumba classes I put this song on for some motivation.

32 Flavors (live acoustic) > Alana Davis
This song is mellow and ideal for unwinding after a long day.

Motivation Mix Monday: DJ Fulano May Be the World's Youngest DJ but his Tunes are Timeless Musts

What were you doing when you were 9 years old? If you’re today’s Motivation Mix Monday “Virtual DJ” DJ Fulano you’re…well…an actual DJ and rapper.  This musical phenom sharing his top song choices to get you going this week may still be in elementary school but he’s already deejayed some impressive places including the launch of Diane Von Furstenberg's GapKids collection, Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week at Lincoln Center, The Core Club’s Global Party at New York hotspot The Darby, and he has also deejayed live on The Today Show with Matt Lauer and Ann Curry.  In June 2012, DJ Fulano launched his monthly afternoon kids dance party at New York hotspot, SL.

Not only is Fulano the youngest deejay around, he is also a rapper and his first single, Hey DJ, produced by DJ Cassidy and is a throwback to early Hip Hop park jams.  True story of persistence and passion:  while taking music classes and listening to music on deejay-defined internet radio website, thefuture.fm Fulano discovered DJ Cassidy and was so moved by his music that he began to tweet him every morning before school.  When the two deejays finally met, a protégé and mentor were born. “I was simply blown away by Fulano’s knowledge of music, his technical skill, and most importantly, his soul,” explains DJ Cassidy. “My parents bought me turntables when I ten years old. I always thought I was ahead of the game. Now, Fulano brings new meaning to those words.”

With praise like that from one of the most famous DJ’s in the world we know that this young, music-preneur is going places, and we’re pumped to have him on the Monday Motivation Mix decks.

Motivation Mix Monday: Beauty Pioneer & Entrepreneur Jennifer Walsh's Soundtrack for Success

The entrepreneur taking on the role of Motivation Mix Monday DJ today is Jennifer Walsh, who is a true pioneer in the beauty business. Her role within the industry began more than 15 years ago, and I'll get to that story in a moment...Beyond her many accomplisments in the beauty industry, I've wanted Jennifer to take the decks show awhile now as to me, she epitomizes what these Monday mixes are all about: getting pumped, positive, motivated and ready to take on whatever the day or your business present you with throughout the week.  I've had the pleasure of getting to know Jennifer as a fellow entrepreneur on both a professional and personal level and am regularly inspired by the way she faces every day with grace and a positive attitude.  Her motivating energy is infectious and spreads to everyone around her. Today, she'll be sharing a bit of that energy with you as well, via her mix.  That said, first let me tell you a little bit about Jennifer's decade-plus of Tin Shingleing!

In 1998 she founded what became one of the very first beauty boutique chains in the US called The Beauty Bar & grew it into a multi-chain, multi platform, multi million dollar company before selling it in 2010. Jennifer was the first beauty branding pioneer who leveraged the TV/retail/website concept in 1998 where no one else in the country had yet ventured into this space. This, my beauty-lovers, was way before Sephora making her a true business pioneer!  She was bringing beauty outside of the department store setting for the first time, when it just wasn't done and had not been seen before. By doing this, Jennifer helped launch Kiehl's, La Mer, Stila, Fresh, Philosophy, and more in a arena that was yet to be seen in the US.

Since 1998, Jennifer has been on TV showcasing brands, brand stories, their ingredients, & educating millions of viewers as well as serving as a small business expert.  What I also love about her story is that it is one based on true perseverance and passion the necessary ingredients to any success story, no matter the field it's in.

With all that success, I wanted to know what tunes get Jennifer moving on Monday, or any day, and she made the time to share them via today's Motivation Mix.  Sit back, take a listen, and let the good tunes provide a soundtrack to success for your day!

PLAYLIST OF JENNIFER WALSH: FOUNDER OF THE BEAUTY BAR, SMALL BUSINESS EXPERT, BEAUTY BRAND STRATEGIST

Just Fine > Mary J. Blige
I feel like this is MY song -- whenever I feel like less than my usual happy person, I crank this up and I am singing a different tune automatically

Run the World (Girls) > Beyonce
This song makes me want to sing it from the mountain tops - if you believe it ( that "it", being anything!), than you can do it!!

Dog Days Are Over > Florence and The Machine
I hear this song and am just happy for where I am in my life - be thankful for the moments, the good and the bad and acknowledge them for what they are in your life!

These Shoes > Paolo Nutini
Fun fun fun - that's all I can say!

Get Right > Jennifer Lopez
I used to have this as my ring tone - I would blare this song in my stores all of the time and I know it probably drove my staff crazy but it did get everyone moving :)

Little Lion Man > Mumford and Sons
This makes me feel like I am outside dancing in the grass at a summer time concert

Sweet Disposition > The Temper Trap
The melody and the beat keep me going to POWER thru anything

Come On, Come On > Scott Hardkiss
One of my all time favorites - the ups the downs and how we need to move on, come on, come on - very powerful song for me as it got me thru a "rough patch" in life! I love this song! MAKE THE MOST OF THESE HOURS!!!

Each Day Gets Better > John Legend
I think John Legend's voice can move anyone -- its even better to listen to on a Monday morning when you want to kick it into high gear!

Motivation Mix Mondays: Kevin Thompson of The Wendy Williams Show

Kevin Thompson, entertainer for The Wendy Williams Show

If you’ve ever been to a live television show taping you already know this, but if you haven’t I’ll let you in on a secret:  beyond the host of the show, there is always another powerful and energizing person involved…The team member put to task to warming up and motivating the audience, keeping that audience on their feet, excited and involved in the (often lengthy) taping from start to finish.  Our PR team recently saw this phenomenon in action when we went to a taping of The Wendy Williams Show, and I say phenomenon without any hesitation.

Wendy’s “opening act” is none other than Kevin Thompson, an entertainer that you only need to be around five minutes to begin wishing he could come to your office and start every day off with a song, dance and his contagious spirit.  True story: the executive producers at Wendy Williams didn’t actually want an opener, but Kevin took the mic once to show them what he can do, and he’s been there ever since.  Kevin is made for the stage and is an entertainer entrepreneur in his own right!  As any good entrepreneur does, we hunted him down and asked him to share what tunes help him do what he does so well, and he obliged.  Check out Kevin’s mix below and follow him on Facebook (or visit him at the Wendy Williams show)!

MOTIVATION MIX OF WENDY WILLIAM’S KEVIN THOMPSON
Kevin listens to music before he hosts any event or does the warm up for the Wendy Williams Show. It puts him in a silly mood and helps shake his nerves (he’s ALWAYS nervous).

The Cure & The Cause (Dennis Ferrer Remix) - Fish Go Deep
Dancing to this song makes me feel like a female. It's the only song that has that affect on me.

Grove St. Party - Wacka Flocka Flame
Southern music gets me in an aggressive fun mood...just what I need before I warm up a Wendy Williams crowd.

Danza Kuduro - Don Omar & Lucenzo
Spicy, sexy & fun. My favorite song to lead line dances to at Bar/Bat Mitzvahs.

Move Your Feet - Junior Senior
My 6-year old nieces favorite song to dance to on 'Lets Dance.' I think about her every time it's on (and she's my twin sisters baby, so I feel like she's mine).

Raging Bull - Mr. Vegas & Overmars
Jamaican rhythm flows through my blood, and this song can turn an "ok" party into a crazy one.

Run This Town - Lil' Wayne
Whether I’m hosting an event at the Waldorf, Yankee Stadium or a college, I like to think of myself as the coolest guy in the room. Lil' Wayne exemplifies that to the MAX.

Love Dancing - Meritol Family
Whenever I get booked for a new event I celebrate by turning on this Dance Hall song & going crazy.

Strip - Chris Brown & Kevin McCall
This is a fun & sexual song, 2 things I like to bring to the Wendy Williams Show during my warm up bit.

Hosanna - Kirk Franklin
I grew up in the church, & Kirk Franklin was the MAN growing up.

Holla At Me - Chris Brown
This is a party song that dancers can only freestyle to, making it the perfect song to pump me up when I need it.

Motivation Mix: Ruby Ray Likes Samples

Normally Sabina is the deliverer of kick-butt mixes for Motivation Mix Monday. But this Monday, we had to let my daughter, Ruby Ray, take the stage to give you a live performance. She is being groomed to be a country music singer, and right now, she's working on her rhythm and costume selection. Take a few seconds to watch her getting pumped up for her Monday at baby school! And yes, that is a cash register you see on its side - we're practicing punching in numbers and opening the drawer for spring time lemonade stands! We have an actual lemonade stand, and are can't wait to set it up in the front yard for the many church go-ers we get on Sundays.

Motivation Mix Monday: Joey Parker - Our Youngest DJ & Featured Entrepreneur Yet - Reveals His Playlist

If there are two things today's Motivation Mix Monday DJ and global entrepreneur have taught me, it's that you can never be too young to launch your first brand, and you can never be too young to change the world.  At an age when some of us (I'll admit I'm included in that group) were most worried about scoring high marks in our college classes and our social calendar, Joey has grown his feel-good, inspirational brand, The Joey Parker Movement, via grassroots and social media outreach to a place where he's recognized not just by his readers, but by Hollywood and media heavy hitters as well.  (Check out his Twitter feed to see what I mean!)

After a trip to Africa, Joey Parker came back ready to change the world! Turning to the web to accomplish this, in 2009 his hit website, The Joey Parker Movement, was born. Now read in over a 100 countries Joey focuses on creating positive celebrity content, while interviewing high profile celebrities.  Beyond the fact that he's one of the fastest and most responsive members of the media and entrepreneurial worlds I've ever worked with, and his face should be in the dictionary next to the term "go-getter" or "self-made", I love that he doesn't rely on snark or celebrity dirt to grow his brand, and instead draws attention to issues that really matter, from world crisis to non-profits and movements hoping to heal global wounds.

So how does he stay on track, go after what he wants and dig deep every day?  What tunes pump him up to literally take on the world?  Read below to find out...

PLAYLIST OF ENTREPRENEUR JOEY PARKER

Lights > Ellie Goulding
I have such an eclectic taste in music, but right now Ellie Goulding’s hit song ‘Lights’ is definitely my jam I have been blasting from my Mac as I blog. From the catchy beats to the beautiful voice, this song helps catapult me into work mode and ignites my motivation.

Bigger Than My Body > John Mayer
With a talented singer like John, you can’t go wrong with any of his songs to spark up your day. My personal favorite would have to be – Bigger Than My Body. The lyrics: Someday I’ll Soar/Someday I’ll Be So Damn Much More/ ‘Cause I’m Bigger Than My Body, stand out to me and resonates as an entrepreneur. This song will kick-start your day for sure!

Empire State of Mind > Jay Z
Such a classic that I could repeat all day. This song never fails at putting me in the best mood. With Alicia Keys featured on the track… you can’t go wrong!

Stronger > Kanye West
‘‘Work it harder, make it better, do it faster, makes us stronger, more than ever, never over, Our work is never over. [Chorus:] Now that don't kill me Can only make me stronger. Now Kanye is one of my favorites, he truly radiates talent. His song ‘Stronger’ will launch your Monday off right!

Respect > Aretha Franlkin
Oh Aretha... what a legend! With a voice like hers, you can’t help but smile. A true gift she has. Her iconic song ‘Respect’ is a Monday-Music-Must-Have!

Good Day Sunshine > The Beatles
What better way to wake up then a Beatles song, right? The legendary band will live on forever. ‘Good Day Sunshine’ is just a positive song that will brighten up anyone’s day.

Andy Grammer > Keep Your Head Up
If you listen to the radio, I guarantee you have heard this song a few times! Whether I am working on my website or catching up on emails, this song is refreshing and a good song to get stuck in your head on a Monday morning!

Titanium > David Guetta featuring Sia
If you haven’t heard this song, you are missing out. David Guetta is a genius, with beats that will make you want to jump up and start dancing. Now, what is better than that on a Monday morning? His songs always get me up and ready to tackle what the day is about to throw at me.

Superhero > Simon Curtis
I love Simon Curtis, his album in 2011 was one of my favorites. His lyrics, ‘It's not enough to be better than the rest Gotta take it to the top and make yourself a superstar.’ – This part of the song reminds me to get to where I want to go, I must give my all everyday. A perfect song for the aspiring entrepreneur.

Shake It Out > Florence And The Machine
Now, although this song may be on my number 10 spot, don’t be fooled. This song is my number 1 played song on my computer right now, and pushes me through the tough mornings.

Some days we need a boost of motivation, and I hope these 10 will set fire to your days and get you off on the right foot. Enjoy!

Motivation Mix Monday: Tory Johnson Reveals What Tunes Help Her Spark & Hustle

It's the first Monday of the New Year, a special day, a new chance to motivate yourself professionally and personally.  The opportunities before you are limitless (and for some of you, we're sure your to-do lists are as well).  With this in mind we knew we needed a special DJ to take to this week's Motivation Mix decks. Someone who is not only an entrepreneur, but a supporter of small business in a BIG way.

Tory is the founder of of the beyond motivating Spark & Hustle (which recently wrapped it's national tour) where she helps entrepreneurs create profitable lives and businesses based on their passion and purpose.  She is also the founder of Women for Hire (for employees), and for six year has been a regular contributor on Good Morning America. PHEW.  What I also admire about Tory is she clearly values and takes the time for family, a balancing act every entrepreneur knows can be tricky.

(Tory "live" at Spark & Hustle)

Now perhaps you can see why in the weeks leading up to the New Year I just knew Tory would be the first person to spin some motivating tunes for us.  Not only is she a mentor and role model to so many of us in the world of small business, but on a selfish level, *I* want to know what Tory is listening to that keeps her going, keeps her positive and keeps her motivated.  She did not disappoint!

See below for Tory's top music picks for this Monday's Motivation Mix.  Don't forget, as always, you can click on them and download them straight to your computer should you need a little pick-me-up this morning!

PLAYLIST OF TORY JOHNSON

It’s My Life > Bon Jovi
This was the theme song for my first series on Good Morning America called “Take Control of Your Life.”  I traveled to 9 cities to report on the workplace issues that mattered most to women.  We had custom tshirts for the big crowds that gathered to appear on TV and everyone rocked out to this Bon Jovi classic.  My favorite lyrics: “I ain't gonna be just a face in the crowd. You're gonna hear my voice when I shout it out loud. It's my life. It's now or never. I ain't gonna live forever. I just want to live while I'm alive.”

Firework > Katy Perry
Russell Brand may be over Katy Perry, but I’ll never tire of these lyrics, which always put me in a great mood and remind me that I have what it takes to make big things happen if I just do it. “You just gotta ignite the light and let it shine. Just own the night like the 4th of July. Baby, you’re a firework. Come on, let your colors burst.”

Unwritten > Natasha Bedingfield
On the days when nothing seems to go right, this sweet song shakes me up and reminds me that it’s ok to make mistakes and it’s ok not to have all the answers—and it’s perfectly acceptable to just start over:  “I break tradition. Sometimes my tries are outside the lines. We've been conditioned to not make mistakes, but I can't live that way. Drench yourself in words unspoken. Live your life with arms wide open. Today is where your book begins.

God Bless the USA > Lee Greenwood
This may seem like an untraditional pick, but my eyes tear up every time I blast this favorite. After 9/11 when I held my biggest Women For Hire career expo ever, I got a very brief phone call from President Clinton who told me that at the core of our financial freedom in this country is the right to work—and he congratulated me on our event. With millions of people so hard hit in the last few years, it’s essential to remember that there’s no better place to start over than right here.  “If tomorrow all the things were gone, I'd worked for all my life, And I had to start again, with just my children and my wife, I'd thank my lucky stars, to be living here today, 'Cause the flag still stands for freedom, and they can't take that away.”

Price Tag > Jessie J
Even though I spend so much time encouraging women to focus on money—asking for it, growing it, valuing their time and talent—I know that it’s not boatloads of cash that drive most of us. It’s something bigger than just money.  It’s more about what the money can do for us and the people we love—whether it’s giving us better choices in childcare or eldercare, allowing us to travel the world with our families, enabling us to raise awareness for causes we believe in.  That’s what this song reminds me of: “It's not about the money, money, money. We don't need your money, money, money. We just wanna make the world dance. Forget about the price tag. Ain't about the (uh) Cha-Ching Cha-Ching. Ain't about the (yeah) Ba-Bling Ba-Bling. Wanna make the world dance. Forget about the price tag.”

The World’s Greatest > R Kelly
I’m crazy about this song.  My kids learned this in middle school chorus and to hear it belted a cappella by a bunch of sixth graders was pretty powerful. This is one to sing with crazy passion in the shower—or when you’re frustrated at your desk—go wild! “If anybody asks you who I am, Just stand up tall, Look 'em in the face and say: I'm that star up in the sky. I'm that mountain peak up high. Hey, I made it. I'm the world's greatest.  And I'm that little bit of hope, when my back's against the ropes, I can feel it, I'm the world's greatest.”

EXTRA BONUS!!!!!

Motivation Mix Monday: Micah Jesse, Celebrity Blogger & Media Celeb Mans the Decks

Normally our Motivation Mix Monday DJ's are hot entrepreneurs or media's finest, so you can imagine how excited we were to get a combo deal!  Presenting this week's guest DJ on the Motivation Mix turntables: Micah Jesse.  If you work with the media, especially the celebrity media in any way, OR if you are like many of us who love reading about celebrity & entertainment news and gossip, you know Micah

Not only is his eponymous website (www.MicahJesse.com) which he started approximately four years ago a hot commodity but so is Micah Jesse himself, who regularly serves as an on-air expert on all things Hollywood.  What we love about him, beyond the juicy scoop he dishes up daily, is that he created his dream brand the old fashioned way - hard work, hustling, connecting, serving as his own best publicist....and all the other things that make a great entrepreneur!

So how did he power his way into the spotlight and how does he keep up the pace that's help him spread his brand from NYC to LA to ATL?  Perhaps his choice of songs has a little bit to do with it.....

(Don't forget to follow Micah on Facebook & Twitter)

PLAYLIST OF MICAH JESSE, WWW.MICAHJESSE.COM

Keep on Singing my Song > Christina Aguilera
This song is about not letting bad things happening around you get you down and recognizing your blessings. Plus, Christina's vocals are crazy on here!

T.G.I.F. (Last Friday Night) >  Katy Perry
This song is just so fun and can make me dance every time its on. It's a great party song!

Nobody's Perfect > Jessie J
This song is about admitting when you're wrong and treating people like you want to be treated. Both great messages.

Yeah! > Usher
Being born and raised in "the A" (or Atlanta) has inevitably made me an Usher fan. I'm in love with almost all of his songs but this one takes the cake any day! The second it comes on I turn into a full blown dancing machine!

Everything Is Everything > Lauryn Hill
This song is about recognizing that "what is meant to be will be." Its a great positive message to remind yourself that things happen for a reason.

What Doesn't Kill You (Stronger) > Kelly Clarkson
This is one of the most empowering songs on the radio right now. Despite having an incredible upbeat tempo that makes you want to dance, the message is clear: what doesn't kill you, makes you stronger! I love listening to this song on the treadmill when I'm going 8 MPH +.

Need You Now > Lady Antebellum
This song is just SO good! It's got such a great beat and such heartfelt vocals.

Soar > Christina Aguilera
This song is about loving yourself despite hardship which is a very important message to me! Christina's vocals on this track are incredible!

A Moment Like This > Kelly Clarkson
Okay, call me cheesy, but I am in love with this song! If you watched "American Idol" Season 1 you saw Kelly take home the title of the 1st "American Idol" but the message of the song lives on: to really live and relish in a big moment in your life. It's inspiring and so heartfelt!

Give Me Everything > Pitbull
Not only is this song one of the best dance songs of our generation but it also starts with a great message about turning every negative into a positive. I feel like it screams, "shake the pain away and just dance!"
